Hello everyone, there’s a piece of news just now. Li Daoguo, the editor-in-chief of the well-known Utopia website, was taken away on March 25, 2026, by police officers from Huixian City, Xinxiang, Henan, for allegedly extortion.
The Utopia website was founded in 2023 and is known for openly overturning the verdict on extreme left-wing thought, and is considered a representative of extreme left-wing ideology. Li Daoguo is from Huixian City, Xinxiang, Henan, and participated in the editing work of the Utopia website. He is also the deputy general manager of a company related to Utopia.
Li Daoguo’s criminal detention this time is said to be related to his persistent reporting of a building materials company suspected of environmental damage. In order to report and defend his rights, Li Daoguo also taught himself law and passed the bar exam this year, obtaining a legal professional qualification.
Therefore, regarding the criminal detention of Li Daoguo, the deputy general manager of Utopia, for allegedly extortion, we still need to observe and cannot hastily draw conclusions. It is possible that Li Daoguo really violated the law and deserved it. It is also possible that he was retaliated against for persistently reporting the collusion between local officials and businessmen, illegal mining, and environmental damage, and may have been wronged.
The company that Li Daoguo has been persistently reporting is “Huixian City Zhongquan Building Materials Co., Ltd.”, whose legal representative, Pei Longxiang, is also the deputy branch secretary of Peizhai Village, Zhangcun Township, Huixian City. Li Daoguo pointed out in many articles that Pei Longxiang’s backer is Pei Chunliang, the village branch secretary of Peizhai Village.
According to public information, Pei Chunliang is a four-time National People’s Congress representative, and has served as the 10th Henan Provincial Party Committee member and the 11th Henan Provincial Party Committee alternate member. In 2023, he appeared on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala as a “representative of the most beautiful strivers” and also won many honors such as the National Moral Model, National Excellent Communist Party Member, China’s Most Beautiful Village Official, Xinxiang Labor Model, Xinxiang Top Ten Outstanding Youth, China’s Top Ten Outstanding Young Farmers, and “China’s Top Ten Outstanding Youth”. However, Pei Chunliang was removed from his position as a representative of the 14th National People’s Congress on September 28, 2024, “for alleged violations of discipline.” It is not yet clear whether this is related to the reports of Li Daoguo and other people.
As for whether Li Daoguo is suspected of illegal and criminal acts, and whether it is related to Utopia, we also need to continue to pay attention.
