Previously, Pan Moumou’s parents from Hunan went to the Mianhuaping Yao Ethnic Township government in Ningyuan County, Hunan to handle some affairs, but they were unsuccessful after many trips. On August 18, his parents took him to the township government, and found that a large number of staff were absent during working hours. Only then did he post the matter online.
Mr. Pan said that on the evening of August 20, four police officers went to his hometown to “talk” to him, and two elderly people in the family were frightened. Mr. Pan said: “When I went back, I found that the two (old) people were holding pesticides. I saw that something was wrong, so I snatched them and smashed the pesticides.”
On the afternoon of August 22, the joint investigation team of Ningyuan County, Yongzhou City, Hunan Province, reported the investigation of the public opinion incident of Pan Moumou’s release of “a large number of vacancies during the working hours of the township government” and “police visited the whistleblower’s home at night, scaring the elderly to commit suicide by drinking medicine.”
The report stated that the police wore and used law enforcement recorders throughout the process, without verbal intimidation, and no extreme words were used, and the communication between the two parties was peaceful. However, Mr. Pan hopes to make public or allow him to personally watch the video of the entire law enforcement process of the law enforcement recorder.
Perhaps it is true that “no extreme words were used, and the communication between the two parties was peaceful”, but I think the police will not disclose the law enforcement video in all likelihood. Mr. Pan’s parents were frightened and wanted to commit suicide by drinking pesticides, which can only show that the two elderly people are too timid—even so, can the Ningyuan police do this?
Pan Moumou responded to the reporter of the New Yellow River that among the four police officers who went to his home that day, two of them actually knew his mobile phone number. He believed that it was not necessary for the police to visit his home at night and disturb the two elderly people.
Mr. Pan is right. For such a small matter, is it necessary for the police to mobilize such a large force and visit at night? In Ningyuan, during working hours during the day, a large number of public officials are absent from their posts, and no one cares about serious matters, but they are active in visiting at night. Isn’t this a waste of resources?
After the problem of the township government’s vacancies was exposed, the local government has not yet responded to the society, but the police visited in advance at night. With this effort to go to the door to “talk”, it is better to investigate the problem of vacancies and give the people an explanation. Moreover, it is the duty of public officials to be on duty and fulfill their responsibilities, and they should accept supervision. As soon as a post is published, the police will come to the door at night. What does this mean?
Everyone knows the “certificate-showing sister” incident in Guangxi. In the traffic dispute, the “certificate-showing sister” showed her certificate to threaten “Flathead Brother”. After “Flathead Brother” reported the case to the police to no avail, he posted the matter online, and the police also visited at night.
Similarly, in the sexual harassment incident at Wuhan University Library, after the blogger “Li Ranyu Xin” reported the academic fraud of Wuhan University student Yang Mouyuan (the female protagonist of the “sexual harassment” case) in her real name, the result was also that the police and people of unknown identity came to the door late at night.
As everyone knows, we have always had the problem of insufficient police force. Therefore, ordinary people’s complaints are dismissed with a sentence of “negotiation to solve”. According to the principle, the police should only visit at midnight in necessary scenarios such as criminal investigation and emergency public security cases—why are they so keen to serve the people by visiting at night without any hardship?
