Thai media Thai PBS reported today that Sutthipong Boonnithi, Deputy Auditor General and Spokesperson of the Thai Audit Office, said that the new office building of the Audit Office under construction in Chatuchak District, Bangkok, collapsed during construction due to the 7.9-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar (the Thai Meteorological Department said the earthquake reached 8.2 magnitude). The project is currently 30% complete. Sutthipong said he had rushed to the scene to verify the loss.
The new office building project is a 30-story high-rise building with a total construction budget of 2.136 billion baht (approximately 460 million yuan), which started construction in 2020 and was once suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project was undertaken by a joint venture ITD-CREC (a joint venture of Italian Thai Development Public Company Limited and China Railway Tenth Bureau (Thailand) Co., Ltd.).
The unit supervising the construction is a joint venture PKW (composed of PN Synchronize Co., Ltd., W. & Sahai Consultants Co., Ltd. and KP Consultants and Management Co., Ltd.), which is responsible for the construction supervision of the main building and supporting facilities, with a contract amount of 74.653 million baht, and the debt term was extended to fiscal years 2020-2026.
