Basic Common Sense | Jiang Qiulian, a woman harmed twice by family planning

Because netizens persistently and tirelessly reported Jiang Qiulian (mother of Jiang Ge, a female student who was murdered in Japan) for alleged fraudulent donations and tax evasion, the Jimo District of Qingdao City, Shandong Province, specifically established a joint investigation team and released a very detailed situation report.

(A side note: It would be great if the investigation reports of those incidents involving public power were also so clear and detailed)

The report involves a total of six points. I used my brain’s intelligence to summarize the key points for everyone:

1. Jiang Qiulian received a total of 4.11 million yuan in donations, spent 2.75 million yuan on handling her daughter Jiang Ge’s funeral and litigation matters, and donated 900,000 yuan to the society, with a slight surplus, but there was no fraud.
2. No tax issues were found with Jiang Qiulian’s company (used for operating self-media).
3. There is no problem of using POS machines to cash out.
4. Her acquisition of resettlement housing and compensation due to demolition is reasonable and legal.
5. The report that she occupied the homestead of a five-guarantee household in the same village is untrue.
6. Jiang Qiulian once lent her ID card to a woman in the same village for giving birth to a child in excess of the (then) family planning policy and registering the child. It is true that Jiang Qiulian has a son in her household registration, but the child was not born by her, nor is she raising him.

The first 5 points involve public interests and alleged violations of law and crime. It is reasonable for the local government and public security organs to come forward to investigate and announce the truth. But this sixth point is really puzzling:

Netizens are concerned about whether Jiang Qiulian concealed the birth of a son out of gossip and personal grudges. What is the government doing getting involved? It’s okay to investigate, but why did you announce the investigation results? Have you considered the privacy rights of citizens?

It has to be said that Jiang Qiulian is really miserable in this regard. She has been hurt twice by the family planning policy:

First, because of the family planning policy, she only had one daughter, Jiang Ge. After her daughter was murdered in a criminal case, she fell into a state of loneliness and helplessness. Losing a child in middle age is also the common experience and predicament of more than a million bereaved families in China.

Second, also because of the family planning policy, Jiang Qiulian’s act of helping others in those years has become a “handle” for netizens to continuously attack and humiliate her after many years.

The world is full of sorrow, nothing more than this.

In fact, to be honest, Jiang Qiulian’s practice of lending her ID card to villagers for “overbirth” was common throughout the country, and I know of more than 3 cases myself. Of course, I will never reveal these names until the relevant policies are rehabilitated.

This kind of helpless practice is generally understood and sympathized with in the real world. Those who were willing to take risks to cooperate with these practices back then would also be regarded as acts of kindness and righteousness.

I personally firmly oppose local government departments now pursuing the individual cases of “family planning violations” back then. I personally firmly oppose some netizens using this as a handle to attack and insult Jiang Qiulian.

Of course, I personally do not like Jiang Qiulian’s very aggressive public expression style, and I do not agree with some of her practices in handling her daughter’s funeral and litigation, but these have nothing to do with me, nor with public interests.

What I am concerned about is that a bereaved mother should no longer be attacked and humiliated because of the legacy of the family planning policy back then. This is inhumane and even helps the evildoers.

I wish Jiang Qiulian to get out of the pain of her daughter’s death and the endless aftermath as soon as possible and become herself again.
