1, A report published by People’s Daily on Christmas Eve caused a sensation. The title of the report is: “The ‘Stories of Sino-US Friendly Cooperation’ Collection Activity Launched.”

The report wrote, “The submitted works should revolve around the theme of ‘Transcending Cultural Differences and Inheriting Friendship and Trust’, and record touching stories of Sino-US exchanges and showcase the beautiful picture of Sino-US friendly cooperation through text, pictures, videos, and other forms.”
Not only does it emphasize Sino-US friendship, but it also launches a collection of works, and it is initiated by People’s Daily. The amount of information behind this is huge, and it will also make some anti-American people unable to react. Their brain capacity cannot bear such agitation and impact – you can imagine their bewildered expressions.
By the way, I have met many such people in my life. They will not question why Sima Nan buys a big house in the United States while cursing the United States, and Chen Ping goes to the United States for retirement while cursing the United States. Instead, people like me who have never been to the United States, as long as they say a little good about the United States, will be labeled with many big hats. Once, I threw a post about how to run in a WeChat group. Because the author of the post was an American, someone jumped out and said, “Do Chinese people need Americans to teach them how to run? What is your intention?”
Okay, no more complaints, let’s get back to the point. The “Stories of Sino-US Friendly Cooperation” collection activity launched by People’s Daily makes me very excited. I, who have not participated in any writing activities for many years, must actively participate this time. Because the theme of “Transcending Cultural Differences and Inheriting Friendship and Trust” makes me think of the touching story of the American people adopting 100,000 Chinese orphans – at least, emotionally, this can be regarded as a kind of private Sino-US “cooperation”.
2, Since December 29, 1991, China promulgated the “Adoption Law” and opened up the adoption of Chinese orphans by foreigners. According to statistics from relevant adoption management agencies of the US government, by 2021, nearly 100,000 Chinese orphans were adopted by American families. About 88% of them are girls, and about 80% have congenital disabilities or diseases. Originally, for these children, being abandoned by their parents or their parents encountering major changes and having to enter the welfare home was a head-on blow to their fate. Compared with children living in normal families, their lives, which have just begun, are incomplete. However, this channel of international adoption has allowed some lucky ones to live a life that goes straight from the mire to heaven. There are many examples of this – American couple Kristy and her husband came to China to adopt an orphan, Jiajia, who was born in Nanchang, Jiangxi, was loved by Kristy and her husband at first sight. Jiajia was abandoned by her parents at birth due to cleft lip and palate. Kristy and her husband quickly took Jiajia to the United States and spent $25,000 on cleft lip and palate repair surgery.

When Jiajia was almost three years old, in February 2018, adoptive mother Kristy began to look for Jiajia’s biological parents. Kristy said: “We have always called her Jiajia and didn’t give her an English name, just to make it easier for her biological parents to find her.” “She is like an angel and has brought us a lot of joy.”
Sophi Green, 9, who lives in Utah, USA, is born with disabilities and has no arms. Although she has legs, her right foot has no fibula, so it is shorter than her left leg. She was abandoned by her Chinese parents at birth and became an orphan.

In 2010, a kind American couple, Christina and Jeremy, came to the orphanage in Henan where she was. At that time, they were going to adopt her blind sister Lexi, but when they saw Sophi, they were moved by Sophi. They decided to adopt these poor sisters at the same time and brought them to the United States. Including Sophi, her adoptive parents adopted a total of 7 orphans, all of whom were children with physical disabilities. Fortunately, this special family is always full of laughter. Although Sophi has no hands, she writes with her feet at school and studies very hard, and gets along well with her classmates. Although Sophi’s brother is blind, he accompanies her dancing at home by playing the piano, and the family is full of love and joy. 18 years ago, an orphan from Hunan was adopted by Amazon’s Bezos, from nothing to $200,000 a month in pocket money, and may also inherit billions of dollars in assets. Such a change of fate is beyond the imagination of many people.
3, What particularly touches me is that, as mentioned earlier, these American families come to China to adopt children and will specifically choose those who are sick and physically disabled – in our land, this will be regarded as an incredible thing.
And in their concept, these children have congenital defects, which is itself a misfortune, and the only way to offset this misfortune is love and compassion. For them, this is a true emotion from the heart. In fact, many families have children themselves, and adopting orphans from other countries is just a way for them to express this love and compassion. What is commendable is that they also taught these children what love is. When they explain to the children who already understand what “adoption” is, they will tell the children: “Your parents don’t not love you. It’s just that they couldn’t give you enough love at the time, and we happened to be able to. So, they gave us this precious opportunity to love you.”
Many people cannot understand this emotion. Therefore, when they see that the adopted children are basically girls, they naturally think that they are adopted for the purpose of sex. They are not very willing to face the fact that – because of the preference for boys over girls, the vast majority of abandoned babies are girls.
Have you been touched by the actions of these ordinary American people? Do their practices also well reflect the theme of “Transcending Cultural Differences and Inheriting Friendship and Trust”? Yes, this article does not involve the grand narrative in the political field, but only uses this to pay tribute to the simple and great emotions surging in the ordinary Americans.
This kind of emotion transcends cultural differences and racial differences, and makes people rediscover the nobility of being human. If someone calls me a bootlicker or a worshiper of the United States because of this – their vocabulary is also roughly the same – infected by these American couples with great love, I will not be angry with such mentally disabled people, but will feel a deep compassion.
