The matter I’m going to write about today carries a certain risk. According to rational logic, it shouldn’t be written. Moreover, I’ve suffered a considerable loss and nearly got implicated because I wrote about similar events before. Therefore, when I saw this matter, I was very conflicted and contradictory in my heart: should I say a few words or not!
But after thinking it over, if I don’t write it, if I don’t speak out, I feel somewhat suppressed in my heart.
First, let’s look at the detention notice below. The literal meaning is that Jing Shuren has been criminally detained, with the charge of picking quarrels and provoking trouble. The date of detention is March 16th, 16:00!
Many people don’t know Jing Shuren. He’s a very ordinary migrant worker, the kind who is very honest and simple. He’s one of my Weibo friends. Because I haven’t posted on Weibo much in the past few years, we’ve interacted less. Before, when I posted on Weibo, he often reposted my posts. Because of this interaction, I often read his Weibo too. He’s a very interesting person who likes to mind other people’s business, but in my impression, compared to those who eat the blood of others and have no moral principles, he is relatively more stable.
But posting online doesn’t mean you won’t get into trouble just because you act in a stable manner and follow your conscience. For example, a certain well-known lawyer V, even though he knows that the event hasn’t been verified and contains rumors, he still posts frequently, but because he understands the law and knows how to avoid risks, he’s fine.
As for Jing Shuren, you can see from his dynamics that he clearly has judgment, knowing what are false rumors and what are attempts to stir up trouble. He doesn’t touch them, but he’s too straightforward. For some small matters that would obviously offend people, he still intervenes because he thinks it’s true and he should take care of it, and taking care of it is doing good for society. Therefore, he gives people the impression that he likes to mind other people’s business.
For example, the recent incident: seeing that the tap water pipeline beside the provincial road was broken, he called the relevant departments because it endangered the safety of passing vehicles. If he wasn’t careful, an accident could happen.
Mr. Yu Fei from Beijing commented on him, saying that he is a migrant worker, lovely and respectable. He is lovely because he hates evil like an enemy, and when he encounters bullying, he rushes forward without hesitation, because he himself is ‘weak’, so he is lovely!
Faced with his personality, Teacher Yu Jianrong once advised him, ‘You’re a migrant worker, making a living on a construction site, but you supervise this today and criticize that tomorrow. One day you’ll be locked up.’
Jing Shuren’s reply was, ‘If everyone doesn’t speak up, how will this society function!’
Teacher Yu Fei, who is very close to him, also advised him, opposing his straightforwardness as a migrant worker who doesn’t know the immensity of the world. At the dinner table, when talking about the local police station often advising him to mind his own business, he also said that he could do good deeds, but he should do what he can!
The reality is like this: people can only do what they can.
Because there are too many things in the world, beyond one’s own ability, then anyone should have the awareness that I am also powerless.
But awareness is awareness, but the detention of Jing Shuren, picking quarrels and provoking trouble is a key point. What kind of picking quarrels and provoking trouble did he do that led to his arrest? This is a very important question. Many people are asking!
Of course, we don’t know the specific details, but if it’s just based on his dynamics of minding other people’s business that constitutes picking quarrels and provoking trouble, then this law is actually being used incorrectly!
Because a healthy society really needs some people who are willing to ‘mind other people’s business’. Especially a migrant worker like Jing Shuren, the events he focuses on are mostly things around him. My personal understanding is that the existence of such people is more beneficial than harmful to society.
It’s like there have been many, many accidents recently, from the fire in the residential area in Nanjing, where many innocent people died, but we know that before that, there were people who minded other people’s business in this residential area. A few years ago, they pointed out this hidden danger, but unfortunately, the words of the person who minded other people’s business did not receive the attention of the relevant departments. If they had paid attention, then the tragedy could have been avoided.
Then there’s the explosion accident in Hebei. If the hidden danger could be discovered by a person as serious as Jing Shuren, then after he saw it, according to his personality, he would never stand idly by. He would definitely call one level after another to convey this hidden danger. Then, isn’t the existence of such a person a good thing for society?
In this case, a society must be able to accommodate these people who mind other people’s business!
Because there are fewer and fewer of these kinds of people. Now, those who are active on the internet can be counted on two hands. Most of them choose to remain silent, the reason being that they cannot afford the price, either being arrested or being suppressed to the point of disappearing. In short, the endings are not very good.
Most of those who remain are romanticizing, or they are opportunistic. Actually, this is not good. The emergence of any species, including humans, naturally possesses multiple attributes. This attribute has a good side and also a not-so-good side. And for a simple migrant worker like Jing Shuren, the good side is that some hidden dangers to society can be prevented in advance. The not-so-good attribute is probably that it may affect some people’s faces and make some people feel uncomfortable.
After all, you, a small migrant worker, also come to point fingers at my affairs, how can I bear it!
Finally, what I’m really concerned about is, what did Jing Shuren stir up, and what did he provoke? I also hope that the superior departments can take a look. If he is guilty, then punish him. If he is not guilty, then give him a reasonable explanation!
