Ice Thought Library | Because of Mo Yan, there was a father-daughter feud?

In the past, I only heard that a couple of doctorates in Shanghai divorced due to disagreements on academic views. I didn’t expect that now, because of Mo Yan, a father and daughter have split into two camps and are at each other’s throats.

Unexpectedly, the “burning” of the Mo Yan incident actually caused a father and daughter to fall out.

Several screenshots circulating online show that a female lawyer surnamed Zhou first posted on her WeChat Moments—

My father sent me a voice message saying that I’ve completely embarrassed him, daring to express opinions that don’t support Mao Xinghuo. He also said that if I were by his side, he would slap me a few times. I really want to curse, but he’s my father. Forget it, I’ll endure it! But I still said to my father unhappily, you guys solve your own living expenses from now on, I won’t give you money anymore!

Then, she posted a message in a group that appeared to be a family group:

Given my father’s ignorant and unyielding thoughts, he criticizes my Moments all day long, saying this is not right and that is not right. I hereby publicly announce that I will no longer give my parents any money this year. As a husband, my father should give his wife money to spend, you guys figure out your own family’s living expenses… Besides, you live in a great and peaceful era, theoretically there shouldn’t be any living difficulties, you should be very happy. So, you just report good news to me and not bad news from now on!

In the past, I only heard that a couple of doctorates in Shanghai divorced due to disagreements on academic views. I didn’t expect that now, because of Mo Yan, a father and daughter have split into two camps and are at each other’s throats.

From the article, it can be seen that this female lawyer’s values are quite upright and she has a sense of justice, but her temper is a bit fiery—she is from Hunan, and it is said that she is from the same hometown as me—which also fits people’s definition of a fiery Hunanese woman.

Of course, I think she’s just speaking out of anger. Opinions can be torn apart, but the physical space we live in cannot be torn apart, and kinship cannot be torn apart. This father actually doesn’t need to post a video of “filial piety comes first” in the group to remind her, his daughter should just have a sharp tongue but a soft heart.

I just think this kind of tearing is too absurd.

Let’s not talk about Mo Yan. Let’s talk about something that happened to me. One day, I forwarded a post about how to run scientifically to a certain group. I was very worried about causing unnecessary arguments in the group, so I usually don’t forward those topic-oriented posts to the group. I thought that such popular science posts should be harmless, right?

Unexpectedly, because the post quoted a suggestion from an American expert at the beginning, someone in the group soon questioned it, asking if even running needs to be taught by Americans? What are your intentions?

You see, facing such a person, do you still have room to discuss with him?

Recently, some abnormal phenomena have been linked together, making people feel very strange. First, the “War Horse Action” reported that a promotional poster in a Nanjing shopping mall had Japanese elements, and then someone sued Mo Yan, believing that his works beautified Japanese invaders.

Then, someone set fire to Nongfu Spring—for example, the way the word “tea” is written in Nongfu Spring is Japanese style. In fact, from Liu Gongquan of the Tang Dynasty to Mi Fu of the Song Dynasty, they all wrote it this way; and some people found that the lid of Nongfu Spring looks like a rising sun flag.

They are very clear about what can be touched and what cannot be touched. For example, the pattern of a certain flower, the logo of PetroChina can also be associated, do they dare to touch it?

They only pick the soft persimmons to pinch.

The problem is that their momentum is getting bigger and bigger, the decibels are getting higher and higher, like a snowball, the team is getting bigger and bigger, and, increasingly, there is a sense of “using the leeks to gain self-importance”—the aforementioned female lawyer’s father is one of these leeks.

According to her description, her father is already over 60 years old, has no pension, and relies on his children for support, but this does not prevent him from showing generous revolutionary spirit and great national sentiments in dealing with the Mo Yan issue, and even wants to give his daughter a few slaps. These leeks all over the mountains and plains are the huge base of “patriotic business people”.

In recent years, not to mention that friends often break ties because of different views, the phenomenon of two generations turning against each other is also not uncommon. A friend of mine told me that a former colleague of his, because his views on some things differed greatly from his son’s, blocked each other.

I don’t remember who said this: In a world of only straight lines, any curve is guilty. In many people’s world, besides agreeing and disagreeing, there is no middle ground. Either this or that, either black or white, either friend or foe, is the logical image of many people.

This is a world lacking a bottom-line consensus, an absurdly divided world.

The previous generation and this generation are already like this. I just hope that our next generation will not continue to live in such a world.

To this end, we must constantly consolidate common sense, and issue and amplify those gentle and rational voices that have been repeatedly verified by time.
