Intellectuals should listen to every voice in society, observe every gaze, but never listen to the voice of knowledge…”

Liu Xiaobo, with Western cultural criticism, dissected with surgical precision and sharpness the contemporary Chinese politics and the backward and closed aspects of Chinese intellectuals. He further criticized the overly utilitarian ills of Chinese intellectuals. Even though thirty years have passed, and China has undergone tremendous changes in the passage of time, the aspects criticized by Liu Xiaobo, the closed and utilitarian appearance of intellectuals, still remain deeply rooted in the hearts of the Chinese people.
