On February 25, 2018, Xinhua News Agency announced the draft amendment to the constitution of the Second Plenary Session, proposing to write “the leadership of the Communist Party of China is the most essential feature of socialism with Chinese characteristics” into Article 1 of the Constitution, write “Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era” into the Constitution, delete the content of “the term of office of the President and Vice President shall not exceed two terms”, and establish the constitutional status of the National Supervision Commission and local supervision commissions at all levels.
