Fang Fang | Wuhan Diary | Fang Fang’s Diary

“Wuhan Diary”, also known as “Fang Fang’s Diary”, is a collection of diaries written by Chinese writer Fang Fang during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Fang Fang’s original name is Wang Fang, and she is a well-known Chinese writer. During the lockdown of Wuhan, she posted a diary online every day, recording the social situation, personal observations, and thoughts of Wuhan in the early stages of the epidemic. Her diary not only depicts the living conditions of ordinary people during the epidemic, but also criticizes the local government’s various problems in responding to the epidemic.

These diaries have aroused widespread attention and controversy online. Some people believe that her records reflect the real situation during the epidemic and have left valuable historical materials for future generations; others criticize her remarks as being too pessimistic, and even believe that she is “smearing” China’s anti-epidemic efforts.

After “Wuhan Diary” was published overseas, it triggered a wider range of discussions because it not only recorded the social situation during the epidemic, but also touched upon broader political and social issues. The publication of the book has caused great controversy and attention both at home and abroad. Due to the sensitive content of Fang Fang’s diary, it was once blocked and censored within mainland China.
