Following the incident at that hospital and the 14 SCI papers by undergraduates, Huang Yangdiantian and her father, who was once a civil servant, have become the new targets of public criticism.
The cause was a pair of earrings.
On May 11, Huang Yangdiantian shared photos of her coming-of-age ceremony on social media. In the photos, the earrings she wore were identified as a classic series from the luxury brand GRAFF, with an official price of about 2.3 million yuan. Netizens calculated her family’s wealth based on this, feeling that a third- or fourth-tier celebrity from a civil servant family, under normal circumstances, should not have such a high consumption capacity.
Subsequently, Huang Yangdiantian posted similar photos again, saying “the earrings are my mother’s.” Huang Yangdiantian’s father, Yang Wei, also responded in a post: the earrings are not genuine, and the rumors involving Ya’an post-disaster reconstruction and corrupt officials are all false.
Huang Yangdiantian first said the earrings were her mother’s, and then the father said the earrings were not genuine, which became “wearing her mother’s counterfeit earrings.” It’s no wonder that netizens would further question: if they are worthless counterfeit goods, is it still necessary to use her mother’s? And it’s such an important occasion as the coming-of-age ceremony?
In the absence of direct evidence, such questioning is indeed somewhat “subconscious,” but it may not be inconsistent with certain common sense. After all, there have been many “Brother Yangs” led by Yang Dacai, as well as the grandfather of Beiji Catfish, Zhou Gongzi, and “Secretary Yan” incidents.
Some people ask, Yang Wei has resigned for so many years and is already an ordinary person, is it impossible to investigate?
In fact, public officials may not only be investigated after retirement, but cases of being investigated many years after resignation are also numerous.
For example, Zhang Hongli, the former vice president of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, was investigated 5 years after resigning, and his doctoral degree was all a lie; Guo Hongwei, the former president of the Tianjin branch of Bank of Communications, was investigated 8 years after resigning; and Wang Dehe, the former secretary of the Xinyu Municipal Party Committee and director of the Decision-Making Advisory Committee of the Jiangxi Provincial Government, was investigated more than a decade after resigning and going into business.
Moreover, according to the “Disciplinary Regulations of the Communist Party of China,” cadres must strictly implement the employment restrictions after leaving their posts to avoid conflicts of interest.
First, they cannot violate the regulations to accept employment from enterprises and intermediary agencies within the jurisdiction and business scope of their former positions;
Second, they cannot violate the regulations to engage in profit-making activities directly related to the business under their former jurisdiction or their former work; third, after the retirement or resignation of leading party cadres, they cannot violate the regulations to serve as independent directors or independent supervisors of listed companies and fund management companies.
Whether Yang Wei has problems in this regard is actually very easy to find out.
According to Yang Wei’s self-description, he once worked in the Ya’an Urban Management Bureau’s Law Enforcement Brigade, and later transferred to the Investment Promotion Service Center under the Ya’an Municipal Investment Promotion Bureau, mainly engaged in investment promotion, docking services, and unit network construction. The particularity of this work is also the key to netizens’ questioning and whether it is related to his going into business.

Yang Wei also stated that his work content has never been responsible for the bidding projects of Ya’an post-disaster reconstruction, the bidding review, and the income and expenditure of funds, and has never joined the Sichuan Charity Federation. The relevant content on the internet is actually a person with the same name, which has nothing to do with him. Whether this is true can also be verified, this is the digital age.
It cannot be said that after resigning, the original unit has nothing to do with him. If he was suspected of violating laws and regulations in the posts he once held, or if there are certain clues, the relevant units involved should also actively accept them.
Yang Wei has already stated in his public statement that he will cooperate with the investigation by relevant departments, so Ya’an local authorities might as well intervene and investigate, which is good for everyone.
In recent years, the handling of public opinion and its working mechanism have become increasingly mature. The State Council Office once issued a document to set rules. Regarding the government’s public opinion involving local areas, it should be responded to in accordance with the principles of local management, hierarchical responsibility, and who is in charge is responsible. The responsible department is the first responsible subject, and the general office (room) of the government at the same level, together with the propaganda department, should do a good job of organizing and coordinating; if the responsible department implements vertical management, the general office (room) of the superior department, together with the propaganda department, should do a good job of organizing and coordinating. And there are time limits such as within 24 hours and within 48 hours.
It also emphasizes that those involving the vital interests of the public and having a significant impact, and those involving serious violations of social morality in the field of people’s livelihood… all belong to the government’s public opinion that needs to be given priority response.
So, does a resigned civil servant being questioned about possible corruption, and the hot search has been on for several days, count as government public opinion? And does it count as major?
