At 12:34 p.m. on February 1, 2026, in the Central Garden residential area of Donghai County, Lianyungang, Jiangsu, a Samoyed dog that had been kept for 7 years was burned alive in a cage by two young boys using fireworks.

The next morning, the police came to the door.

Ms. Jiang, the dog’s owner (Weibo @说好不熬), later spoke out online, describing the scene:

“Stealing the dog, stealing the phone, the uncle doesn’t turn on the law enforcement recorder, is this legal?”

The surveillance video completely recorded the last three minutes of this Samoyed’s life.

At 12:34:50, the two young boys walked to the dog cage. The black-clothed boy lit a firework and threw it into the cage. Light smoke drifted out, and the two ran away.

In less than a minute, they returned.

This time, the two lit fireworks together and reached into the dog cage again. The smoke in the cage had become thicker. The black-clothed boy took the firework to chase a chicken, and the white-clothed boy stayed in place to observe.

At 12:35:13, the black-clothed boy turned his head and pointed at the surveillance camera above his head.

He knew someone was watching.

At 12:37, a thick black smoke suddenly emerged from the dog cage, followed by a burst of flames.

The dog’s screams were clearly heard in the surveillance video.

Ms. Jiang later viewed the complete recording. She said that the Samoyed, trapped in the cage and struggling to escape, cried for nearly three minutes before the sound gradually weakened.

By the time the adults arrived at the scene, the fire had engulfed the entire cage:

The dog was no longer crying.

Ms. Jiang called the police.

The police intervened to mediate and called both parties to the police station for consultation.

According to Ms. Jiang, the consultation lasted more than three hours.

The parents involved in the mediation room’s behavior made her feel disheartened.

This parent crossed his legs during the consultation, had a bad attitude, and once refused to compensate.
He also threatened:
“I will find connections to resolve this.”

The final negotiation result was: each family would pay 3,000 yuan, totaling 6,000 yuan. Or, compensate with another dog.

Ms. Jiang did not accept. She said that the dog, which she had raised for 7 years, was already a member of the family. It would lie by her bedside when she was sick and would pat her hand with its paws when she cried.

These are not something that 6,000 yuan can buy.

She only had one request: to have the two children publicly apologize in the community’s owner group.

On the morning of February 2, the police came.

Not to investigate.

Ms. Jiang recorded what happened that day on Weibo:

“On the morning of February 2, the police came to the door to steal the dog and destroy the evidence. I took a video and snatched my phone. The information I posted on Xiaohongshu was all taken down. I came to Weibo, and the matter is still being appealed. I realized for the first time that the world is so dark.”

In the video, the police officer stood next to the old woman. The old woman is Ms. Jiang’s grandmother, seventy years old, sitting on the ground, wailing.

There was a pink floral blanket on the ground. Under the blanket was the dog that her granddaughter had raised for seven years, which had been burned.

“Why did you dispose of my dog privately? Why?”

No one answered her.

The property staff used a long-handled shovel to shovel the blanket and the dog together into a black trash can.

The police watched the whole process from the side.

She later added a detail:

“The uncle didn’t turn on the law enforcement recorder.”

The dog’s body was taken away. Ms. Jiang tried to record all this with her phone, but her phone was snatched. The content she posted on Xiaohongshu was all taken down.

On the same day, the community property manager responded to the outside world: “The parents have taken the children to apologize to the dog owner and compensated 6,000 yuan, and the matter has been resolved.”

Ms. Jiang’s response was:

“Didn’t accept.”

She later disclosed more details: “The auxiliary police also called to coerce me and scare my grandmother. My grandmother is 70 years old and was so scared that she had to sign the agreement.”

A 70-year-old woman signed the agreement under phone threats.

After public opinion fermented, the parents involved released an apology video.

Ms. Jiang’s response was:

“Regardless of which platform the other parents publicly apologize on, I will not accept it until the matter is legally resolved, and I want an explanation.”

Soon after, the apology video was deleted.

In this surveillance video, we can see them burning chickens and dogs with fire.

A netizen said: “Children of this age should be innocent and kind, and it is impossible not to know the consequences of setting fire. It is really terrible to treat animals so cruelly.”

Someone else said: “You can also see from the parents’ attitude that this has a lot to do with family education. As the saying goes, you can tell a person’s future from the age of three. If they are not strictly disciplined, they will sooner or later cause even greater trouble.”

On February 2, Ms. Jiang’s first Weibo post was forwarded 43,000 times.

On February 4, she deleted all her Weibo posts, leaving only one:

“Dear netizens, I am the owner of the Samoyed dog ‘Xiao Wang’. Regarding the dispute over the death of ‘Xiao Wang’, with the help of lawyers and relevant departments, I have reached a settlement with the other party, and the matter has been resolved. Thank you for your concern! Thank you all!”

Her dog, which she had raised for 7 years, was burned to death. The dog’s body was shoveled into the trash can. Her phone was snatched. The video was deleted. Her grandmother was scared. The agreement was signed.

Now, the other party announced:

“The matter has been resolved.”

Back to that surveillance video.

At 12:35:13, the black-clothed boy turned his head and pointed at the camera.

He is not afraid of being filmed. He knows he is a minor. He knows that burning a dog to death is not a big deal. He knows that even if someone sees it, no one will really pursue it.

He is right.

Three days later, the dog went into the trash can, the grandmother signed, the granddaughter deleted the Weibo, and the apology video was also deleted.

The surveillance is still there, the evidence is still there, but everything has been “resolved”.

In this settlement, who won?

The children who burned the dog did not apologize in the owner group. The police who handled the body did not explain why they did not turn on the law enforcement recorder. The grandmother who was forced to sign no longer speaks.

Only the finger pointing at the camera is still in the picture.

As if to say: So what if you saw it?
