I was baffled by a piece of news sent by a netizen. He asked me what I thought, and I could only say that I didn’t quite understand it. If you want to try it too, you can read it yourself, and the screenshot is below: The nation’s first “TCM brain-computer interface” equipment has landed, and related technology has been carried on the Shenzhou series manned spacecraft to carry out space-based experiments…
Putting aside everything else, just this title, do you know what it’s talking about? Brain-computer interface one moment, manned spacecraft the next, is it trying to be so awesome that it’s beyond the understanding of ordinary people, and then you don’t dare to speculate, right?
I understand that logic: the strategic vision of the top leaders has long been planned for hundreds of years from now, it’s normal that you don’t understand.

Reading this text gives me the feeling that it’s stuffing in cutting-edge vocabulary, associating it with the most authoritative units, and twisting together the names with the most cultural symbols.
So, you see, when these things are put together, doesn’t it instantly become high-end: brain-computer interaction, human-machine integration, intelligent TCM, brain-controlled acupuncture, neurological rehabilitation, manned spaceflight, Shenzhou spacecraft… Oh, right, and Hua Tuo.
But in reality, the causal relationships, technical paths, and actual effects of these high-end things are not explained at all.
It’s not that our understanding and experience are the problem, but that the content itself is incomprehensible.
Anyway, I’ve read it several times, trying to understand it with human thinking, but I still feel incredibly obscure. If I have to translate it into human language, I can only translate it to this extent: We have made a device that combines brainwave signals with electrical stimulation/acupuncture for rehabilitation treatment. Currently, it’s mainly experimental and platform-level stuff, and the actual clinical effects and application scope are still being explored.
That should be the meaning, right?
But when translated into “human language”, it does instantly become not “divine”. Doesn’t this just mean that you have nothing but a concept?
I have always believed that science is serious and meticulous. It is not literature, it doesn’t need rhetoric or artistic conception. It is not business either, it doesn’t need concepts and stocks. It only needs to talk about things, to clarify the products, functions, data, and possible side effects.
To be honest, the name is very evocative, “Shen Gong – Hua Tuo”… Hua Tuo, a divine doctor? An ancient person? Anyway, it’s an unrepeatable personal experience. But the brain-computer interface is highly dependent on statistics, algorithms, and reproducible experimental modern engineering technology. When the two are combined, it doesn’t seem like scientific research, but rather a promotional copy.
And “space acupuncture”, this has already exceeded the understanding of normal people. According to the news, which constantly emphasizes manned spaceflight, Shenzhou spacecraft, and space-based experiments, it seems to be verifying the efficacy in space? Then, are there control groups, and are there clear conclusions?
No! There is only one sentence, “carried on multiple Shenzhou series manned spacecraft to carry out space-based experiments”, in communication, this is called “authority endorsement transfer”, making you feel confused and awe-inspiring.
That’s about it, I think this thing is not meant for us to see, it should be for the “project establishment, review, and propaganda system” to see. The keyword density is high, the unit level is also high, the narrative is grand, and the cultural symbols are very rich, which is very suitable for writing achievement reports or project applications.
But ordinary people don’t care about these, we look at a research result, only caring about: what specific problems can you solve? Compared to the existing ones, what are your advantages over what others have invented? Has it been verified that it is indeed effective, and the side effects are within a reasonable range?
But in fact, none of these have been answered directly.
So, normal people will feel that they don’t understand after reading it. I am the same: it feels like it’s very powerful, but if you ask me where it’s powerful, I can’t say a word.
Because I don’t even know what it wants to say.
