A few days ago, I wrote an article about students at Shenyang Normal University vomiting, having diarrhea, and some even being sent to the emergency room, but it was deleted shortly after. In fact, when I wrote it, a few media outlets had already started reporting on it, but even so, there was a lot of public relations work done to suppress it.
In fact, the incident first appeared on August 31st. The screenshot below from “Beijing Daily” also mentioned this point. But at that time, there were no relevant reports at all, only a few students’ own revelations on social platforms, which were scarce and disappeared quickly.
If you cover up the matter and silence people, this phenomenon will never receive attention and punishment, then this operation will continue forever.
Today’s trending topic is that the school has reported a total of 2087 people with gastroenteritis symptoms, with 1817 people already recovered, and the source of the virus is the school’s own well water reservoir. Why not wait two more days and report it after everyone has recovered? Maybe they can even turn a bad thing into a good thing and promote it as a “medical miracle”.

From August 31st to September 7th, a whole week. Even if this happened in a country on the other side of the Pacific Ocean, it probably wouldn’t take so long to reach us. The power and significance of the news is both amusing and absurd. On the contrary, the selection and control of the news makes people feel awesome plus:
It turns out that it is not used to convey the truth, but like a timed firework, it has to be released at a time they think is suitable for you to see.
In the comment sections below the news and various reports, you can also see many people asking “why not continue to suppress it”.
But by now, the questioning is meaningless because those people simply won’t pay attention. They even directly delete the questions you raise, and then add a sentence “welcome supervision”, which is full of black humor.
So, what’s the point of a belated report? Just directly tell the outside world, “Everyone has recovered”? However, in fact, a lot of people don’t even know when the students got sick.
What if it was reported earlier? What if it was told to the outside world when the problem first appeared on August 31st?
Some departments will immediately intervene in the investigation, and some parents will also choose to take their children home first. Isn’t it good to clarify the problem earlier and reduce the number of students suffering from the virus?
It’s good, but it would be better for the school if they could close the door themselves and secretly find the source. But in the end, more and more students were infected, they couldn’t cover it up, and they couldn’t hide it, so today’s trending topic appeared.

In a nutshell, if the problem is reported as soon as it appears, then it is supervision and transparency. But if it is exposed only when the problem is almost over, then it doesn’t have much meaning.
In comparison, a more meaningful thing should be to ask Shenyang Normal University why they concealed the report? Why didn’t they report and explain it when the incident first happened? You hand your children over to them, and is this how you accept social supervision, by constantly deleting posts on a certain social media platform?
But in reality, it stops at “asking”. They just did it, and you can’t do anything about it. And in the future, when similar things happen, “they” will still do it.
This brings us to another “old news, new report” from yesterday.
After a parent questioned the quality of the school uniform, he was arrested by the Ning County Public Security Bureau of Gansu Province on the charge of “picking quarrels and provoking trouble”. He didn’t do anything, just questioned the quality of the school uniform. And this incident led to the parent’s life being almost ruined: first losing his job, then divorcing, and finally becoming depressed.
And now, the court ruled that “the act of detaining him was illegal”. But what can it change? The local Public Security Bureau compensated him 3237.08 yuan, and the “apology” reported by the media yesterday.

It’s so absurd and ironic, just over 3000 yuan, plus an apology, is enough for them to commit such a big mistake and cause such great harm to ordinary people without having to take responsibility.
This compensation amount is almost equivalent to the price of a school uniform, which is also a response.
Such “Monday morning quarterbacking” is meaningless. Because this is not a punishment at all, nor is it fair. On the contrary, it is even another irony to the previous incident: what’s the use of your appeal? You lost so much, and we are unscathed. Who won?
And therefore, as with the situation at Shenyang Normal University, in the future, when similar things happen, “they” will still do it.
They will not change at all, what needs to be changed are ordinary people, the common people: from now on, do not question the quality of school uniforms.
But is this way of curbing problems useful? Don’t forget, a fire will not go out just because you draw the curtains, but will burn even more fiercely.
