Whenever corrupt officials fall, especially those high-ranking local officials with great power, the local people often cheer and celebrate, some even setting off firecrackers to “celebrate.”
Corrupt officials are pests and plagues. When corrupt officials are investigated, it is to eliminate harm for the people, and it is natural for the people to be happy and at ease.
However, after Nanyang Municipal Party Committee Secretary Zhu Shixi was officially announced to have fallen on May 14, many different voices appeared in the media comment area, and it can be seen that these voices were mostly from Nanyang netizens.
Why do many Nanyang citizens feel sorry for Zhu Shixi and even praise his achievements during his tenure?
It shows that Zhu Shixi is not a useless official, but a capable official who works diligently.
As a “net-red secretary”, Zhu Shixi once said such a widely circulated sentence at a conference: Do your best to the maximum limit, work hard to the point of helplessness, strive to move the masses, and strive to create miracles.
And judging from previous news reports, since taking office in Nanyang, a super-large prefecture-level city, Zhu Shixi has indeed been very hardworking, with a full schedule every day, often not resting at night and on holidays, which can be described as working day and night.
After Zhu Shixi fell, the media repeatedly mentioned the matter of him taking a “indwelling needle” to a meeting a few months ago.
From the photos at the scene, Zhu Shixi had an intravenous indwelling needle on the back of his left hand, showing that he came to the meeting from the hospital ward.
The so-called “indwelling needle” refers to the continuous infusion, and the clinical nurse will suggest leaving the needle for infusion at the puncture site, which can avoid re-puncturing the vein.
Taking an “indwelling needle” to a meeting shows that Zhu Shixi was still ill and would continue to receive infusion treatment after the meeting. It seems that Zhu Shixi really worked hard for Nanyang.
In fact, Zhu Shixi was taken away on May 12 when he returned to Nanyang East Station after an inspection in Bozhou, Anhui, and his wife was also taken away on the same day.
And on May 13, there were rumors online that Zhu Shixi was being investigated, but because Zhu Shixi had a good reputation in Nanyang, and there were rumors that he was about to be promoted, so many people did not believe it until the official announcement on the morning of May 14.
So, should we feel sorry for the fall of “Desperate Saburo” Zhu Shixi, and is it worth sympathizing with?

It should be admitted that the fallen cadres are not all useless, and some have indeed worked diligently during their tenure and made contributions to a place or unit. But if we only express sympathy and regret for this, and even think that we can offset the mistakes with merit, it is a bit of a disregard for right and wrong.
Leading cadres, as long as they embark on the irreversible path of corruption, regardless of the size of their contributions, are a serious damage to the image of the Party and the country, and a serious infringement of the interests of the masses.
For these pests who line their own pockets, even if they are “capable”, there is no need, and even less should we have sympathy, otherwise it will only fuel the arrogance of those corrupt people who are lucky, making corruption difficult to eradicate.
Sima Guang once advocated in “Zizhi Tongjian” that if there is no “sage” with both virtue and talent available, then it is better to use a “virtuous” person with no talent or even a “fool” with no talent or virtue, rather than a “villain” with talent but no virtue.
Sima Guang said bluntly: “Although the fool wants to do evil, his intelligence cannot be complete, and his strength cannot be overcome, just like a puppy fighting people, people can control it. The villain’s intelligence is enough to fulfill his treachery, and his courage is enough to decide his violence, he is a tiger with wings, how can his harm not be much!”
You must know that the “capable official” with talent but no virtue is more deceptive and more destructive. Compared to his contributions, the harm he causes is more far-reaching and more serious.
Because they are “capable”, under a system where power operates opaquely and supervision is lacking, such people are more likely to dare to break through the forbidden zone and step on the red line, and it is easier for them to get into trouble, thus falling from a “capable official” to a lawless and wanton corrupt official.
Such “capable officials” often ignore rules and systems, resort to any means for personal purposes, are good at hype and showmanship, and engage in political achievements and face projects, which seriously damages the political ecology of a place.
Take Zhu Shixi as an example, although he has been busy, and the city appearance of Nanyang has also changed a lot, in fact, it is exhausting resources and operating with debt. As of the end of 2023, the total government debt of Nanyang reached 123.534 billion yuan, while the city’s fiscal revenue in 2023 was only 28.94 billion yuan.
More frightening than not doing anything is doing things in a chaotic manner.
More should be vigilant than the “useless officials” who hold their positions without doing anything, is the “capable officials” who abuse their power and act arbitrarily.
Therefore, for the fall of “Desperate Saburo” Zhu Shixi, it is not at all worth regretting or sympathizing with.
