Announcement of the Withdrawal of the Nanda Editorial Department of the Journal of Drama and Film Criticism
The journal Drama and Film Criticism was founded in July 2014 by the China Drama Publishing House and the Department of Drama and Film Arts of the School of Liberal Arts of Nanjing University, and has published 51 issues so far.
The Department of Drama and Film Arts of Nanjing University is responsible for all the editorial work of this journal. 9 years ago, we vowed to take “modernization” and “speaking the truth” as our editorial principles; if we cannot adhere to the principles of these 6 words, it is actually not very meaningful to have one more drama and film art magazine.
The so-called “modernization” is to use the dramatic concepts of mankind after leaving the Middle Ages and entering the modern century to evaluate and analyze contemporary Chinese and foreign drama (film and television) creation, like the “May Fourth” New Culture Movement and the “Ideological Liberation” movement of the 1980s, to connect Chinese drama (film and television) with world drama (film and television), and to promote Chinese drama (film and television) to join the world’s modern civilization.
The so-called “speaking the truth” is to only say what you truly believe, and not to say what you do not truly believe for power or money.
For 9 years, we have been dissatisfied with our work, always felt powerless, and always looked forward to the future when we might be able to do better. Only one thing we are satisfied with ourselves is that we have kept the principle of “modernization” and the bottom line of “speaking the truth.”
Perhaps because of these 6 words, we have won the trust of some young scholars in this major, who have become our basic writers, making our magazine a drama and film journal with the youngest author team; perhaps also because of these 6 words, we have won the trust of many young drama and film art enthusiasts and students, and our readership is also the youngest and largest among drama journals.
However, we now have a deep confusion about our so-called purpose, that is, these 6 words, we have lost our former confidence, and we need to stop and re-learn and re-think. We have taken the initiative to propose our withdrawal to the China Drama Publishing House.
The 51st issue of Drama and Film Criticism, which is the 6th issue of this year, is the last issue of this journal edited by the Department of Drama and Film Arts of the School of Liberal Arts of Nanjing University. Here, we solemnly thank the China Drama Publishing House for its trust and support over the past 9 years, thank all the contributors to our magazine for their dedication, and especially thank our 50,000 readers for their appreciation and love!
At the end of the year, I wish my friends a happy new year! Let us cherish ourselves and wait for the spring to bloom.
