On December 7, 2022, the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council issued the “Notice on Further Optimizing the Implementation of Measures for the Prevention and Control of the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia”, so everyone called December 7 “National Lockdown Day”. Since the day of the lockdown, there is no need to repeat what everyone has experienced or witnessed.
On December 27, note that it is December 27, that is, 20 days after everyone experienced the lockdown, Li Bin, Deputy Director of the National Health Commission of China, said in Beijing that we were fighting a prepared battle, and not passively opening up. He said with conviction:
“We have withstood the impact of five waves of epidemics around the world, successfully avoided the widespread prevalence of the original strain and the Delta variant strain with strong pathogenicity, greatly reduced the number of severe cases and deaths, and also won valuable time for the research and development of vaccines and drugs, as well as the preparation of medical and other resources, effectively protecting the lives and health of the people, and achieved significant positive results in coordinating epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development.”
I am not very clear about vaccine research and development, and the death rate has been reduced, which may be believable. However, the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council clearly defined the criteria for judging deaths from the novel coronavirus on December 20. It took three years to make a clear judgment on the criteria for death from the novel coronavirus, which made me have some doubts about the statement that the death rate has decreased. I searched on Baidu, and Li Bin has a doctorate in medicine, so he should know that scientific judgments and conclusions are based on evidence. Reduction is the result of comparison. If he says “greatly reduced”, then he should tell us the base number of this “greatly”. How big is the first number, and then it has to be “greatly”?
Li Bin is a doctor of medicine, so he should know that the novel coronavirus, as he said, has mutated from the “original strain and Delta variant strain”. I am not sure why he did not mention Omicron. Did Omicron cause deaths? Has the death rate been greatly reduced? Or has it been reduced?
Li Bin is not only a doctor of medicine, but also the deputy director of the National Health Commission, and he is in charge of management. When he said, “We have also won valuable time for the research and development of vaccines and drugs, as well as the preparation of medical and other resources”, he should have grasped enough information. I don’t know the situation of vaccine and drug research and development. I was vaccinated with Kexing inactivated vaccine. Are there any effective drugs or new vaccines now? Maybe I am ignorant, but I have not seen any reports that new domestic vaccines have been launched, so I don’t quite understand what it means to win valuable time. During these three years, have we had new vaccines or effective drugs launched?
As the deputy director of the National Health Commission, Li Bin said, “We are fighting a prepared battle” and “the preparation of medical and other resources has won valuable time”. He is speaking on behalf of the relevant departments of the state. I don’t quite understand what he means by medical resources. Does the preparation of so-called “medical resources” refer to drugs: effective drugs? Targeted drugs, such as antipyretics and cough suppressants? Or does it refer to the hospital’s ability to receive patients? 120 ambulance resources? Since he said that time was won, he should tell the people what resources were added to the time won?
The work of the Health Commission cannot be denied, and all developments of the epidemic are under their control, which is also beyond doubt. The lockdown was on December 7, and he said this on December 27, which means that he believes that the medical operation in the past 20 days has proved his conclusion. But I and the people around me cannot experience his preparations, and I also understand that Omicron is very difficult to deal with, and even if we try our best, we may not be able to do it well. But he has to tell us in which area of China’s epidemic prevention and control reflects the “prepared battle” he mentioned?
In order to really reduce everyone’s doubts or misunderstandings, I hope Li Bin can take the time to tell the people what preparations the National Health Commission has made for this opening. I am completely unprofessional, but I want to know if they have considered these questions when they are carefully preparing?
1) Have they required all regions, especially pharmacies and hospitals, to provide reports on the capacity of admitting patients?
2) Before the opening, have they required pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies to provide the reserve situation of relevant drugs?
3) Before the opening, have they required all pharmaceutical factories to increase the production of relevant drugs? Or have they made a contingency plan?
4) Before the opening, did they consider that medical staff and ordinary people would also be infected? What if this happens?
5) Before the opening, did they consider whether the existing 120 could cope with the possible call squeeze?
No matter how powerful the institutional advantages are, no matter how great the ideology is, it must be implemented. Doesn’t Li Bin know that their Health Commission is a unit that implements ideology? Preparation is not just about understanding, but also about specific countermeasures. Do they have countermeasures for the above five situations? Have they issued documents? Have they been inspected? Have they dealt with those who are not well prepared? Doesn’t Li Bin know that their Health Commission is a unit that implements ideology? Want to know
1) When did they decide or receive instructions to lift the lockdown?
2) When did they require all regions to prepare for the lifting of the lockdown?
3) What exactly did they do in preparing medical resources?
4) What specific help did they provide to the community to cope with the lifting of the lockdown?
5) If there is a squeeze on medical resources, what is their contingency plan?
In a nutshell, Li Bin, you said you were prepared, so how do you explain the panic of the people in these 20 days? My friend, a retired old professor, was alone at home and could not get any help after the onset of the disease, and finally managed to get through it on his own. An old friend of mine, who has been friends for fifty years, could not get a death certificate immediately after his mother passed away a few days ago. The hospital said that they didn’t know how to write it and needed to study it. In order to cremate in the funeral home, he paid money and went through the channels, but it still had to be scheduled for 7 days later. Many people in our community had high fevers and no antipyretics, and they got through the difficulties by helping each other. All the reports I saw about working overtime were after December 7. I am talking about Shanghai! This terrible situation is still going on!
Is this what Li Bin said was a “prepared battle”? Since he said this, there must be this matter. Li Bin, you have to tell the people where the people have experienced the preparations you mentioned?
