Li Rui | Lushan Conference Verbatim Record

“The Lushan Conference Records” details the proceedings and content of the enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held in Lushan in 1959. The meeting was originally intended to summarize the experiences and lessons of the Great Leap Forward, but as the meeting progressed, the focus gradually shifted to the criticism of Peng Dehuai, and finally evolved into a fierce intra-party struggle. Peng Dehuai was severely criticized by Mao Zedong for criticizing the Great Leap Forward policy, and after the meeting, he was removed from his post and subjected to long-term political suppression. This meeting had a profound impact on Chinese politics, further consolidating Mao Zedong’s authority within the party, and also marked a further narrowing of the space for different opinions within the party.

Li Rui, through rich historical materials and personal experiences, provides a detailed description and analysis of the ins and outs of the meeting in the book, providing an in-depth perspective on the power struggle within the Communist Party of China. The content of the book not only has important historical value, but also provides valuable first-hand information for understanding the political decision-making process and intra-party struggles in China at that time.
