Constructive suggestions | When the flood comes, is it more important to block the dam or to block people’s mouths?

When the flood comes, is it more important to block the breach in the dam, or to block the mouths of civil servants?

Huarong County, Hunan Province, which is experiencing the breach of the Dongting Lake embankment, has made its choice:

Let’s think according to normal people’s logic:

A county with weak financial resources and limited rescue forces suddenly encounters a flood disaster. The first reaction must be to ask for help from the superior government and the whole society. Only when more people pay attention to the disaster in Huarong County will the higher authorities pay more attention, will more rescue forces come to support, and will more social materials and donations be donated.

When encountering a danger that you cannot handle, you should shout for help, which is a truth that even a three-year-old child understands.

The Dongting Lake embankment has breached, and the lives and property of more than 500,000 people in the county are in danger. Instead of quickly organizing all forces to speak out for help, you cover everyone’s mouths at the first time… To put it mildly, you are blinded by the thinking of maintaining stability; to put it more seriously, you don’t care about the safety of the people at all.

I know that some people will say that during the flood control and disaster relief period, social order and stability are extremely important, and it is reasonable to control the channels for information release. To be blunt, this is completely absurd thinking.

First of all, the current public security and network information departments’ ability to manage online information can be said to be superb. Encouraging citizens to speak out and spread the disaster and cracking down on rumors and maintaining order are not in conflict at all. A one-size-fits-all ban on the release of information is a typical lazy government, and it is even a serious evil policy that is not conducive to flood control and disaster relief.

Then, some leaders who have been away from the masses for a long time don’t trust the common people, but the civil servants within the system should always be your “own people”, and they can always be trusted and relied upon, right? When you need online commentators, you assign tasks and targets to all civil servants in the county. When you really need to speak out and call for help from the whole society, you tell all civil servants in the county to shut up, and you are determined not to do anything, right?

In this way, you still have the nerve to call for social donations.

I’m sorry, I really can’t empathize with this.

I just donated 500 yuan to the Meizhou flood a while ago, and I called on readers to donate at least tens of thousands of yuan, but I really can’t donate to Huarong County’s fundraising.

First, lacking real information from the public, I don’t know how much damage the flood in Huarong County has caused, I don’t know if the disaster in Huarong County is really urgent, and I’m not sure if the people of Huarong County need help.

After all, the leaders are the ones who release the disaster information press releases, and the leaders are also the ones who release the fundraising information. I dare not question the leaders’ words, but I think the leaders’ income should not need my donation. I will pay attention after the public disaster information and help information are released.

Second, in the disaster relief that only allows press releases to exist from beginning to end, I also find it difficult to determine whether the donated funds and materials will be used in practice. As we all know, human nature cannot withstand the test, and donations must be able to withstand supervision. An environment that only allows one voice to exist certainly does not have supervision.

Without supervision, there is no donation, this is my personal principle.
