These photos were collected over many difficult years by the Tiananmen Mothers, gathered little by little from victims’ families and people they interviewed after the 1989 Tiananmen Massacre.
In those years of fear, many rolls of film could not be developed in Beijing. They had to be sent elsewhere, and even their true origin could not be spoken.
We organized this visual record not to display suffering, but to make sure every name and every face is not forgotten.
