In the cold of early spring in Moscow, by the river.
The funeral, farewell to Navalny.
The church was packed with people, thousands upon thousands.
Envoys from the great powers were all present.
Global mourning, leaders’ statements.

Military and police were everywhere, as if facing a great enemy.
No one was arrested outside the church, but dozens were forbidden to leave their homes.
The Kremlin strictly forbade gatherings, and those who violated it would be severely punished. Peskov said he had nothing to say to the family.

Flowers, red roses, red carnations.
There was dirty snow on the ground.
The hearse arrived.
The crowd clapped and shouted in unison:
“Alexei! Alexei!”
“Navalny! Navalny!”
“You were not afraid, and we are not afraid either!”
“Thank you, thank you!”
“Executioners!”
“No war!”
“We want e-country, not pj”
“Ukrainians are a kind people”
“We will never forgive”

Navalny’s parents arrived, their faces filled with sorrow, and entered the church.
Grief of the old and the young.
The coffin was carried into the church, and photography was prohibited.
International media signals were also temporarily blocked.
Navalny’s colleagues’ team released some photos.

The funeral ended, the church bells rang, and the procession moved to the nearby cemetery.
The mourners pushed down the temporary iron fence and followed the hearse on foot, shouting “e-country will eventually be free!”
Someone came forward to embrace Navalny’s mother, Lyudmila, and said, “Thank you for raising such a good son!”
Before the coffin was closed, the father kissed his son’s forehead.
He was buried on the banks of the Moskva River, across from the church.
The cemetery and the church were chosen by his wife, Yulia.

There was music as he was buried, Frank Sinatra’s song My Way:
And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friends, I’ll say it clear
I’ll state my case of which I’m certain.
I’ve lived a life that’s full
I’ve traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
Regrets? I’ve had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
Yes, there were times, I’m sure you knew
When I bit off much more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and I spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall
And did it my way
I’ve loved, I’ve laughed and cried
I’ve had my fill – my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way
Oh no. Oh no, not me
I did it my way
For what is a man? What has he got?
If not himself – Then he has not
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels.
Instead of subservient language
The record shows I took the blows
The record shows that I took all the blows
And did it my way
Everything is done my way
Yes, it was my way
(Lyrics translation, take a look, listen to the song)
Then the theme song of the movie “Terminator 2”.
