June 13, Bijie, Guizhou.
Early in the morning, Luo Faxing and his family of more than a dozen people rushed to the gate of the Dafang County Court, waiting for the trial.
The defendant is Luo Faxing’s younger brother, Luo Faxu, 34, a villager of Shizhen, Dafang County.
Luo Faxing said that on February 7 this year, he received a call from his younger brother, asking him to take the three children to the vicinity of the county discipline inspection commission building, “saying he wanted to see the children one last time.”
On the other end of the phone, the father cried:
“If you don’t come in half an hour, I’ll tell you, I won’t do it either, I’ll jump off the building.”
“Yesterday’s measurements came out, is the place that was demolished going to reduce my losses… This house can’t be used either… Are you pushing me to the edge?”

Luo Faxing immediately called the police for help. With the persuasion of his family and the police, Luo Faxu calmed down.
The next day, Luo Faxu’s family received a detention notice: Luo Faxu was administratively detained for 10 days by the Dafang County Public Security Bureau for “picking quarrels and provoking trouble.”
This was not the end. After the administrative penalty, Luo Faxu was criminally charged again. On March 4, the police arrested him. During the investigation stage, Luo Faxu’s bail application was rejected, and he is still detained in the detention center.
Recently, Luo Faxu was prosecuted, and the charge was “picking quarrels and provoking trouble.” Luo Faxing heard the defense lawyer say that if he wanted to seek a suspended sentence in this case, it would be difficult.

“Why should a person go to jail just because he wanted to commit suicide for a moment?”
Luo Faxing was puzzled by this. He said that his younger brother had previously wanted to commit suicide after his house was demolished and he had reflected the situation to many parties without result, and there was no other excessive behavior during this period.
According to an official explanation, the local town government said that Luo Faxu built without approval near his original residence in December 2020, “the area of illegal construction occupied 0.17 mu of cultivated land and 0.11 mu of permanent basic farmland.”
According to Luo Faxing, his younger brother’s family of five, the oldest child is only 5 years old. They did not have independent housing before, and could only squeeze with their family in the old house during the holidays. “Working outside for more than a decade, saving so little money (to build a new house).”
On February 28, 2022, the town government issued a “stop order” to Luo Faxu. On March 16 of the same year, the relevant departments found that Luo Faxu’s new house was still under construction, and then “demolished the wooden frame, wooden boards and some cement bricks.”

Luo Faxing said that Luo Faxu did not know about the encroachment on cultivated land before building the house, and the village committee and the town government did not stop him at first. When the relevant departments ordered the construction to stop a year ago, Luo Faxu had already poured his savings of many years into the new house, “The house cost more than 100,000 yuan, and he usually only earns four or five thousand a month working outside.”
At the beginning of this year, Luo Faxu began to go to various relevant departments to reflect the situation, but it has not been resolved so far.

“I’ll come to hell” is the name of Luo Faxu’s short video account. Before walking onto that rooftop, he posted a video:
“I hope the superior leaders will come down to investigate. After I die, you don’t let me down, this little life, disappointment…”

The day before the trial, the village committee issued a certificate to Luo Faxu, begging the court to apply a suspended sentence to Luo Faxu.
But the trial did not take place as scheduled. At noon on the 13th, Luo Faxing told the author that they were told at the gate of the court that the trial today was cancelled, and they didn’t know the reason.
